Position: Senior Lawyer/Director 

As a Senior Lawyer/Director at Highway Advocates, you will be pivotal in providing strategic legal advice and representation to our clientele. Your extensive experience will be instrumental in handling complex legal challenges, developing innovative and strategic legal submissions, engaging in high-level negotiations with police and prosecutors, and leading a team of talented professionals. You can shape legal strategies, participate in high-stakes litigation, and contribute to our firm’s continued success and growth. Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert legal advice to clients across the entire spectrum of heavy vehicle-related offences, encompassing summary and indictable matters.
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research and analysis to develop effective case strategies.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate various legal documents, including sentence submissions, case conferencing, affidavits, and related correspondence.
  • Professionally represent clients in courts, arbitrations, and administrative proceedings.
  • Mentor and guide junior lawyers and paralegals, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • Stay abreast of industry developments and changes in legislation to ensure accurate and up-to-date legal guidance.

Position Requirements:

  • Law degree from an Australian university. Possession of a Qld Principal Practicing Certificate, or the ability to obtain one, would be highly regarded.
  • Minimum of five years of experience practising criminal law, and a preference for candidates with exposure to traffic law.
  • Demonstrated success in handling complex legal matters and achieving favourable client outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of transportation regulations and industry dynamics.
  • Exceptional analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to comprehensively instruct counsel and town agents.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Leadership qualities with the ability to inspire and mentor junior colleagues.
