Parking Offences
Parking tickets are not something that people like to receive. Although you might feel compelled to pay the fine, a lot of parking tickets can be waived or dismissed in court with a strong defence.
Common defences against parking tickets include:
- The meter is not working
- Not being visible signs or markings
- Tickets issued in error

While most parking tickets are not punishable by any fines, some offences such as parking close to a school crossing or in a handicapped parking spot can result in denial points. Parking violations can also be costly, with some tickets costing more than $500.
Private car parks may also issue ‘fines’ for parking longer than permitted. These fines are usually a contractual matter and cannot be defended in court the same way as a government parking ticket.
You may request a review of your infringement notice.
